Window replacement financing

Couple signing paperwork with a contractor

Many homeowners finance window projects. The best option depends on your credit, your home equity and how quickly you can pay it off.

Your options

Option Good for Watch out for
Installer / manufacturer financing Convenience; sometimes 0% promotions Deferred interest, if not paid in full by the deadline, interest may be charged back to day one; higher prices to cover financing
Home equity loan or HELOC Large projects, lowest rates for many homeowners Your home is collateral; closing costs and time
Personal loan Fast, unsecured, fixed payments Higher rates for fair credit
0% intro APR credit card Small projects you can pay off quickly High rate after the intro period
Utility or local energy programs Energy-efficient upgrades Limited availability; requirements vary

Tips

  • Get the cash price first, then ask about financing. Some “low monthly payment” deals hide a higher project price.
  • Read the promotional terms for deferred interest.
  • Compare the total cost: price + interest + fees.

Tax credits in 2026

The federal Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit (25C), which covered up to $600 a year for qualifying windows, ended for property placed in service after December 31, 2025. Check your utility and state for local rebates instead.
